Some time ago I had to actively learn that I can treat myself, without reason, without needing to "deserve" it. That a present to myself could be made "just because". This way of thinking was so difficult, that I could only do that on my birthday. A result of a childhood spent in scarcity.

These baby steps made all the difference - I promised myself, that on my birthday I will be buying something impractical, just because I want it. So several consecutive years I did it, this little handmade collectible bear being one of these presents to myself. While I had long ago healed, this bear is a constant reminder of what each of us needs every day - kindness to ourselves.
